This project was my (re)introduction to modelling - I've been drawn to it for some time but only tried out a demo or two at uni. I was really happy to get the chance to try it out again by modelling some background props for a stylized short film project with a hand-illustrated feel.
I spent just under a month on this prop and having the time to keep finessing the tankard was hugely helpful for me to get a good grasp of modelling in Maya. I made some mistakes initially but even that was really useful. I really enjoyed tweaking things and adding little bits of natural wobbliness and cartoony chips to the wood and dents to the metal. Finding ways to add character through the little details is my favourite part.
